Meal Fame

Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 2, 2026. Meal Fame is a meal train service: someone sets up a train for a family going through something big, and neighbors claim nights and bring supper. This policy describes what we collect when you use it and how we handle it. We do not sell personal information, and family and helper pages carry no advertising code at all.

Who uses Meal Fame

An organizer sets up a train and signs in with a one-tap email link or a texted code. There is no password, ever. The family receiving meals gets a private link to set their preferences. Neighbors who help never make an account: they open a link, claim a night, and that link is how we remember them. So what we hold depends on which of those you are.

What we collect

From an organizer:the name and phone number or email used to sign in, the train's details (who it is for, the occasion, the dates), and a record of any text consent you gave (the language you saw, a timestamp, and your IP address).

From the family: meal preferences, allergy and dietary notes, a drop-off window, and a delivery address for meals, entered by the family through their own private link.

From a neighbor who helps: the name they give, the night they claimed, an optional phone number or email if they ask for reminders or confirmations (with separate consent for each), a shipping address if they choose to receive a keepsake, and any note or photo they choose to add.

Delivery addresses

The family enters their delivery address through their own private link. It never appears on the train page, in any list, or anywhere Meal Fame publishes. Our database locks it away from every account, so the only ways it leaves are the messages described here and the family's own link.

We share it one way. When a neighbor signs up to bring a night's supper, cooked or picked up, and agrees to texts or email, we send that one neighbor the address privately: the day before, the morning of, and about an hour before the drop-off window. The message includes the street, any unit, the city, state, and zip, the family's private drop-off notes, and, by email, a map link. No other helper receives it, and neither does a neighbor who did not agree to texts or email or one who sends a gift card instead. These messages travel through our text and email providers, Twilio and Resend, and we keep a record each time an address is sent. Usually within a few hours of each address text going out, we erase its words from our text provider's message log (their backups can hold a copy for up to 30 days). The email copy stays with our email provider under its own policy.

The family can see and update their address from their private link. The organizer who started the train is given that same link so they can pass it to the family, which means the organizer can see it too.

Apart from those messages, we do not sell the address or share it with anyone. No courier, florist, or gift partner receives it. If the family uploads a screenshot of a favorite order that shows their address, an AI model reads the screenshot to pull out the food, as described below, and cropping the address out first is always fine. The address stays with the rest of the train's information, and the family can ask us to remove it at any time by emailing hello@mealfame.com.

Payments

Some parts of Meal Fame involve payment: a gift card sent to a family, a physical keepsake, or an organization's monthly subscription. Payments run through Stripe's own hosted checkout, so card numbers are entered on Stripe's page and never touch Meal Fame. We keep a record that a payment happened and what it was for, not the card details.

Text messages

We only text people who give us their number directly and agree to receive texts, with separate consent for coordination messages and optional appreciation messages. Full details, including opt-out, are on our Text Messages page. Message frequency varies by how you use Meal Fame. Message and data rates may apply. Phone numbers and consent records are used to send the messages you asked for and to honor opt-outs, and for no other purpose. We do not sell or share phone numbers for marketing by others. If you reply STOP, we stop texting that number on every train, and we keep a record of the opt-out (the number and when) so it stays stopped, even after a train is removed. Reply START to resume. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All categories above exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

Email

We send transactional email: sign-in links, a claim confirmation, a reminder you asked for. If you email us at hello@mealfame.com, we receive your address and whatever you write, and use it to reply.

The companies that help us run it

We use a small set of service providers, each handling only the data it needs: Supabase (database and sign-in), Stripe (payments), Twilio (text messages), Resend (email), Vercel (hosting), and PostHog (first-party, privacy-minded analytics). Fulfilling a gift card or a keepsake uses a fulfillment partner for that item. A few features use an AI model through Vercel's AI Gateway, sent only to model providers that keep no copy of what they read: turning a family's delivery-app order into a saved favorite (we keep the food, not the screenshot), the optional help a neighbor can ask for with the wording of a note, and our own support tools. We do not sell your information to any of them or to anyone else.

Ad measurement

When we run an ad for Meal Fame, we measure whether it worked: pages like our homepage may load a measurement pixel from the ad service (currently OpenAI), and when someone who arrived from an ad starts a train, we tell that service a sign-up happened, identified by a one-way hash of the sign-in email plus basic connection details (IP address and browser type). This never runs on a train page, a helper page, or a family's pages, and it is measurement only: we do not sell or share your information for anyone else's advertising.

How long links work

Shared train links work through the meal schedule and for a looking-back period after the last night: 90 days by default, 180 for a family in loss, and the family can set anywhere from one month to a year. In that period the train is view-only; no new nights can be claimed. The private family and helper links follow the same schedule. After it, links stop opening and the train is archived. Sign-in links expire within about an hour and texted codes within minutes, per our sign-in provider. Organization invites expire after 14 days if unused. The one link that keeps working is the one that manages your text and email preferences, so you can always opt out.

Security choices

Coordinators can add an optional link lock to the shared train page: folks then enter a phrase the coordinator chose before the train shows. And if any link gets shared wider than intended, the coordinator can refresh every link on the train at once, which makes the old ones stop working immediately.

How long we keep it, and deleting it

We keep a train's information while the train is active and through its looking-back period, then archive it. Archived trains are kept for up to 24 months after the last night for deletion requests and legally required records. After that, the train is removed for good: the names and contact details of everyone on it, notes and photos, award details, and the family's address and favorites. A neighbor's profile photo goes too, unless they are still part of another train. What stays is a bare record that a payment happened (the item, the amount, and the payment processor's reference, with no names or addresses), which we keep for our books. Copies of messages already sent stay with whoever received them, and the companies that carry and record things for us (our text, email, payment, keepsake, and analytics providers) keep their own records under their own policies. Our database backups roll off on a fixed schedule. A sign-in account is separate from any train: it stays until its owner deletes it from their account page or asks us to. You can ask us to delete your information sooner at any time by emailing hello@mealfame.com, and we will, except where we must keep a record such as a payment receipt or a record that a number opted out of texts.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us what we have about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it by emailing hello@mealfame.com. We honor opt-outs immediately. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state privacy laws, and we will honor verified requests consistent with those laws.

Children

Meal Fame is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
